Bipolar age.Two poles at the same time, in the same journey through eleven songs that exude the freshness of a beginning and the consistency of an album that seems anything but a debut.A perfect balance created by extremes.Nothink have managed to knock on the door of the national rock scene and become one of the best hosts. The first time you listen to the band's debut lp from Madrid, you won't remain indifferent. The second you already have a song that you like to listen to several times during the day (I admit that the great guitars of “Adrenaline 500mg” were my first downfall). The third you want to delve deeper into that sweeping music. And from there everything flows.Because with its best and worst moments, Bipolar Age is a hit.It all begins with “Starting days with the right foot”, a song that has nothing to envy the best Foo Fighters and that shows an orientation towards 90s rock, a heritage that they do not abandon throughout the entire album and that they display with head held high.Vibrant guitars with enormously effective changes, a battery that is a guide and destiny at the same time and a bass that pushes the songs. But since rock doesn't live only on instrumental power, the attractive melodies, due to their soft way of channeling a kindly rage, close a circle that is enormously easy to digest. And in these cases the rest comes alone. The acceleration of “Out of order”, the perfectly linked chords during the 500 grams of adrenaline, the quality and the enormous final set of voices of “Mr.Smile”, the desire to bounce caused by the great “Insiders”, the magnetism of “Better yesterday than tomorrow” (a mid-tempo of an exquisite and clean darkness),… A host of sensations and musical gestures that make you not want to let go something to which you have already tied yourself.Nothink were chosen in 2005 as a national revelation group by the readers of zona-zero.net, third best national album in 2005 by the readers and editors of Rockzone magazine and best album in the Community of Madrid by Mondosonoro.I do not agree with the statement that if everyone likes it, it must necessarily be good. But in this case, they are not wrong. The strength of songs like “Straight on back” and “Insiders” endorse them. They are from Majadahonda, one of those cities from which you don't expect to get anything excessively good musically speaking.I like it.It makes me continue to lose my prejudices and have more and more faith in national rock.I could start talking about the challenge that Nothink face with their second album, a sucky syndrome that every group is supposed to face, but I prefer to skip the subject and think about the time I have to enjoy the first one.Three men and a live show On Friday, November 3, the Barracudas room opened its doors to host the Liar Fest, which the Nothink closed after performances by Evohé and Tao Te Kin.I had never been to Barracudas, and despite the not very favorable comments I had heard, I was pleasantly surprised.Small stage and room surrounded by the eyes of several of the best groups of the 90s, whose posters hung on the walls. The bar near the stage.Beer.Full without being overwhelming, it smelled of something pure.To a rock night.Around midnight, Alex, Juan and Miguel began to show what they had inside with “Unidirectional Race”, in my opinion the least successful song in a repertoire made to be spit out between four walls. From that moment on, those from Majadahonda earned a dedicated audience. It's what happens when a good group is half an inch away from its people.Your heartbeat goes to the rhythm of a crushing battery. You think you're playing that guitar. And you let yourself be seduced by a bass that had much more presence than in the studio recordings.“Mr.Smile”, whose video clip was chosen number two on MTV Spain, became a different song.Very accomplished.A few simple stops in “The lost & found key” tamed the moments of madness. The unreleased song “Mexican believer” gained in harshness without losing its magic. And the speed of "Out of order" closed a gig that leaves a very good taste in the mouth. The entire disk gained power without losing effectiveness.Although something went wrong.A song like “Adrenaline 500mg” should have played. It is a thorn that I have nailed.Great concert.Text sources: www.myspace.com/nothink Image sources: http://www.aloudmusic.comThis website uses cookies so that you have the best user experience. If you continue browsing you are giving your consent for the acceptance of the aforementioned cookies and the acceptance of our cookies policy, click the link for more information.plugin cookies
