Osceola County Commissioner Viviana Janer and U.S. Representative Darren Soto will hold a Hurricane Fiona relief effort Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Iglesia De Dios  (Church of God), near the intersection of Simpson Road and Flamboyan Street.

An extensive list of items needed is in the graphic with this story. Due to the difficulty of shipping them to the island, clothing and water  are not  being taken for this supply drive.

Non-perishable food, toiletries, over-the-counter medications, cleaning supplies and survival items like flashlights, battery-operated radios and duct tape are needed as over a million of the island's 3.2 million residents were without power as of Tuesday.

Janer said Hurricane Maria — which struck the island as a near-Category 5 storm five years to the day Tuesday — makes the response so traumatic for Puerto Ricans.

“We learned a lot from our response to Hurricane Maria, so I think this will be part of a more focused relief effort," she said. "We are stronger and more united today – and so far, the response from the community has been overwhelming. And I’m not surprised since for so many of us here in Central Florida, those hurting in Puerto Rico are our neighbors, our friends, our family. We’ll do everything we can to help.”
